About Ruth Ellis

During the last seventeen years I have worked in NHS mental health services and in private practice in Tunbridge Wells. I also work regularly in The Guild of Psychotherapists Clinic in London. I have experience with both young people and adults. My approach is to build trust and instil a feeling of safety so you can talk more easily about yourself. The emphasis is on helping you build more confidence as you find your own voice.

My consulting room is in central Tunbridge Wells. It is a short walk to the railway station and main bus routes.

How will psychotherapy help?

Many people seek therapeutic help at some time in their lives. For example, at a time of sudden change such as loss of employment, bereavement or a feeling of depression or anxiety for no apparent reason.

The psychoanalytic approach is a way of exploring how such difficulties may reflect not only present problems but also have connections with past experiences.

Through the therapeutic relationship an understanding can emerge of the feelings and patterns of behaviour that may be troubling you.

How long will it take?

Some people have therapy initially for short-term focus work to deal with a specific problem, others decide that they want to make deeper changes in their lives and continue in longer term work, sometimes several times per week. The nature of this commitment will depend upon you and the kind of work you want and need to do. This can be discussed at the initial consultation.

How much will it cost?

The fee per session will be in the region of £55.00. This will be discussed at the initial consultation.
